Peeling Shell 2021-24

Within the boundaries of nature, each scene, encased in its own unfathomable shell, created a gap between me and the scene. There, I carried on my work, contemplating shapes I had encountered superficially before, yet had never truly seen. As they come into contact with black-and-white film and the inner workings of the camera, those scenes take on a new form, becoming images imbued with distortion. The black-and-white space, pieced together from multiple photographs, comes into tension with the space I had actually photographed, distorting memory of my escape into nature.

 자연의 구획 안에서 각기 불가해한 껍질을 두른 광경은 나와의 간극을 만들어냈다. 그곳에서 표면적으로 마주했지만 실제로는 결코 볼 수 없었을 형태를 떠올리며 작업을 이어갔다. 그 광경들은 흑백 필름과 카메라의 기술적 요소들에 접촉되어 왜곡을 품은 이미지로 만들어진다. 여러 장의 사진으로 재구축된 흑백의 공간은 실제 촬영을 진행했던 공간과 충돌하며, 자연으로 도피했던 기억을 어긋나게 한다.
